"If you have a Win11 machine . . . " - splutter, I don't even like having Windows machines in the house! :-)

I can't code my out of a paper bag and I've no idea if Rust in the Linux kernel is a good or bad thing. But, and it's a big but, when Microsoft have a hand in 'doing something for Linux' I hear Klaxons and red lights start flashing. MS has form when confronted by competition. Even if the MS coder, or whomever, working on a project doesn't realise it, there maybe an underlying objective to cause problems for the project. Cynical? Moi?
Is Rust used in that paragon of reliability and security Windows?
Again, no mention of the devices compromised by this malware. I suppose we really don't need to be told as we know what OS is the most vulnerable to attack. Clicking the link to the MS article shows that it is Windows devices that are vulnerable to this attack - no real surprise there! Why is this not mentioned in this Reg article?
If I remember right - I think I've only paid the 'Windows Tax' once. This would have been my very first PC bought from Evesham Micros. My second PC I built from parts (and my third and forth?). My 5th(?) was bought from Powerc.com as they supply systems without Windows, if you so choose. My current (and last?) PC I built from parts as I'm an AMD fan and Powerc only do Intel now.
Windows will never sully any of my PCs, not even in a VM.
I too am in the UK. I gave up on main stream media (BBC, all 'news' papers, I still subscribe to Private Eye though). I watch an eclectic range of stuff from YouTube on my TV including what our crazy American cousins are up to via Fox, MSNBC, AON, CNN, CBS, ABC, etc. and various YouTuber political gobshites from both sides - I have a very weird idea of 'entertainment' :-)
There will always be corruption in the world, it is unlikely that corruption can be totally eliminated, some people are just bad and want as much as they can get from wherever they can get it. I've not seen Trump show any kind of empathy to anyone*, or any sign of a charitable disposition.
* Except people like Rob Porter, David Sorensen, Roy Moore and others. This report** is quite an eye opener, and funny! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGP0cuilgWE - SFW
** Less of a report but reports do feature - just. Hannibal Lecter gets a mention in the song too :-)
If it wasn't a Nazi salute, what was it? As far I know Elon hasn't said it wasn't, or said what he meant by it. Silence can tell you a lot sometimes.
Trump - 'I'll fix the Ukraine/Russia war in 24 hours' (lie or bullshit). I'll bring the cost of groceries down on day 1' (lie or bullshit). '300,000 deaths from fentanyl per year' - actual figure <100,000, still bad but a gross overstatement or lie. Plus the opioid problem began to increase under the 1st Trump administration. Trump is certainly not going to mention that!
PS I'm a positive person, I've not down voted you, Beast666 (wrong number? Should be 661) or Mr. Eel (where's he gone?) or others on Trump's side (or straight out trolls). I can't remember the last time I cast a down vote on anyone.
There was (is) all kinds of dodgy shit going on - by both sides it seems. 'We' then have to try and work out which side is dodgier than the other. Politicians lie, fact. Good politicians tell lies that are not so easy to prove a lie. Trump and his minions are terrible liars which make them terrible politicians (Trump and his henchmen aren't politicians anyway, they act more like gangsters).
John Durham, appointed by Trump to look at the FBI investigation - 'In fact, while Durham criticized the FBI for moving to a full scale investigation of Trump, he did state that the bureau did have reason to open a preliminary review' - https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/16/politics/john-durham-trump-russia-report/index.html - no smoke without fire?
We can go back and forth with links and whatever. I suppose we could agree that we each are just trying to have the least worse government overseeing our lives. We get it wrong sometimes and pay with tax increases, shortages of goods, more expensive goods, power outages (I'm old enough to remember planned power cuts, the 3 day working week, etc.)
I watched the court proceedings re. Fani Willis and Nathan Wade - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDcexi-W8rQ - the judge did not find corruption but did find that there could be the appearance of something not right, shagging perhaps. If corruption was found do you think the solution was that Wade would have to resign and Willis could continue with the case? Also, when Willis was disqualified (I've only skimmed the reports) the judge said the case could proceed against Trump, if Willis was dodgy it didn't say Trump and his co-conspirators weren't, and the trial could continue.
Anyway, thank you for spending time compiling your post, I'm having a quiet day doing very little so am enjoying some interaction on our 'interesting times'.
Dear oh dear codejunky. You believe that symbols or mannerisms of Nazism is OK? History maybe mostly bunk (Henry Ford, dreadful anti-Semite) but surely we can't have forgotten what Nazism did for Europe 80 years ago? Still within living memory for some people.
". . . usual mobs looking for offence." People don't need to look for offence - Elon, Trump and the other guys are giving out offence without anyone having to look for it.
I struggle to work out how people can be so blinkered to Trump's (and other's) blatant lies. It's a very worrying time for all of us. Are we heading for ----------------------->
codejunky - "We know the corrupt Russia hoax and the FBI/CIA participation. We know the raid and various garbage trials were just attempts to sling mud at Trump in the hopes it would stop him from being elected."
How do we know these things were wrong? Please link to some factual evidence for your statement. I'd like to have a complete picture of what you are saying.
Have an upvote for the link to Sal's YT channel. I subscribe and watch Sal regularly.
There appears to be an excess of incompetency on ships departing these Russian Baltic ports. I wonder if these ships even have had to use their anchors after leaving the dockside. Going in then yes, sometimes ships are held at an anchorage while they wait for a berth. Coming out they should just be on their way to their destination with no need to use the anchor until arrival. I could imagine that while in port a ship's anchor windlasses would be checked over to ensure the anchor and chain are secure and any necessary maintenance done.
The appearance of something dodgy happening to data and other cables in the Baltic is strong. Pirate icon seems applicable.
Talking about forgetting history.
A certain Austrian man courted Ferdinand Porsche to build a 'peoples car' in the 1930's. Do we have a parallel now with a certain orange person and his 'love' of social media barons and tech bros? What could possibly go wrong :-)
https://www.dw.com/en/hitler-and-his-volkswagen-tracing-the-80-year-history-of-the-beetle/a-43942998
The last paragraph from that article:
'Despite the Beetle's global success, Porsche was taken into surprise custody by French military authorities in December 1945, remaining in jail until August 1947. Hitler and Porsche's cooperation, however, was not all that unusual, Pyta said. Authoritarian rulers can lure apolitical actors with the prospect of major projects: "Porsche was not the only one to push aside moral considerations when presented with unlimited opportunism," he said. "Business leaders interested solely in their company's success or in implementing ambitious technical projects often have no qualms in doing deals with the devil."'
Trump talks the way he does as he knows the poorly educated, and just plain morons, will believe what he says, or are so confused by the words he strings together they think he must be talking on a higher plane that they can't understand, and therefore Trump is totally brilliant. Trump is using the tricks of people like David Blaine and other magicians/tricksters, enough people fall for the trick while others turn away and go yeah, nice trick/illusion but you're still a fuckwit. Trump is your actual Wild West snake-oil salesman and dumb people buy his shit.
Trump is a dangerous fuckwit, he's fooled enough people (twice) to become POTUS. Time will tell but I predict Trump will increase his record of being impeached twice and make it three - hopefully the third time will be the charm.
Rules & laws - just because Musky bought and fucked Twitter up doesn't mean he should be let off breaking rules regarding his share acquisition from before he got his hands fully on Twitter.
I'm interested to understand why you, Mr Eel, seem to side with the law breakers. Most others here appear to be on the side of rules and laws being upheld - however long it takes the regulator to get around to doing something.
You accuse people here of having TDS, I know I haven't, when I hear Trump speak I can hear his words and they often aren't those of a rational human being. How do you know it isn't you that has some problem in your mind and can't see how you are being manipulated or even hypnotised somehow by these bad actors?
I can never fathom how some executives get a double digit percent rise of their already sometimes stupid number pay, whereas the workers have to fight for a 4% rise to their often meagre pay. We're all equal in that there's only so many hours in a day, it's not as if Tim can do more hours work in a day than his office cleaner. Shit! I sound like some commie loon!
Same goes for a lot of Republicans - as can be seen from this latest election.
It's going to be real funny if Trump can't get certified due him being an insurrectionist as found by 2 Colorado courts - true, look it up. Even SCOTUS didn't say he wasn't when they overturned Colorado's attempt at keeping Trump's name off the ballot papers.
I've been absolutely fascinated by Biden's court cases. The sexual assaults, the paying off of a porn star, etc. Biden also called for 4 innocent young black men to be given the death penalty.
Oh, I'm sorry. I just realised that was the orange idiot not Biden. Are you a troll or a moron? I suppose there's little difference really.
Maybe it was a test run of a new technique to try and damage undersea cables? Why do something dodgy in your own backyard where the speculation would be greater on how, who and why the incident happened? Russia and China have been cosying up a bit more recently.
I believe the water near these cables was pretty deep, deeper than most anchor chains would reach. The ship did some odd stuff in the affected area. The ship crossed both cables at almost the exact same time the cables went down - coincidence? Maybe.
A pretty good look at the movements of the ship, and the area the cables sit, can be found on What's Going on With Shipping - https://youtu.be/a7cS1aVGwUE?feature=shared
' . . . Trump was elected on the platform of fixing the immigration problem and related problems.' Which he won't fix. His wall is unbuilt and Mexico hasn't paid for what little that got poorly built.
Jack Smith asked for the cases to be dismissed without prejudice - meaning they could be restarted once Trump is out of office. Will Trump last that long anyway?
Jack Smith is smart. The higher up you're on Trump's list of targets to persecute you'd better do something to protect yourself. Jack could go back to the Hague for a while and come back and toast Trump's ass in a few years time.
Vaguely unable to spell remembers
The cable repair ship will send a ROV to look at the cable and the surrounding seabed. A dragged anchor is going to show a trench and displacement of the cable, other cable chopping methods are likely to leave a mark in the mud, sand, shingle or whatever, unless it's solid rock.
Brave AC - if you haven't worked it out, I'm not an American. I live in an advanced country where the rule of law is applied fairly evenly. My leanings are Conservative. Trump and his minions are not Conservatives, the US Dems are nearer our Conservatives, Trump's Republicans are further right than any US Republicans in US history. Let's see where you guys end up with this lot, if it works out, well good. If not, blame yourselves, not the Dems.
Trump doesn't understand how tariffs work: hint - American consumers pay more for imported goods or pay the higher price of made in the USA goods, either way you pay more for stuff. Not so difficult to understand, though Trump can't, or does and lies to the American people.
PS I've not down voted you or Mr Eel. I don't need to.
TDS is a made up imaginary condition - imaginary like a lot of the stuff Trump talks about - Hannibal Lecter is an example. WTF is Trump on about!?
If Joe told Seal Team 6 to take a person out with an official request - would that be an official act?
Being a non-drinker is more likely to make you a user of other recreation substances - alcohol is a drug, a lot of people like it. Trump doesn't seem to, neither do I, except for the occasional Guinness (because it's good for you).
Leave my wife out of it. She likes a good beating, especially when she's hog tied and gagged. What happens between two consenting adults is nobody's business other than theirs. Kiddy fiddlers need removing from civilised society, Epstein was encouraged and possibly helped to remove himself as the damage to Trump and other powerful people would have been immense. It's a shame we didn't get to hear him tell us about those people.
I loved the pause when Trump was asked if he'd release the Epstein files after saying yes immediately to two other investigations.
God I love this, MAGA morons are so easy to trigger and so obviously ignorant of the world around them. Go Jelly!
PS Funny how the Republicans claims of election rigging didn't just go quiet, it stopped entirely when the figures indicated that Trump had miraculously won the vote! Nothing strange there at all!
lol
Joe should send in Seal Team 6 to eliminate his rival while he's still President :-) Trump thinks he can do that with impunity according to his lawyer with the horrible, gravelly voice John Sauer. Authorise it Dark Brandon and lets see how Presidential immunity works.
Trump is indeed deranged so it's not a surprise a condition is named after the first individual found with the disorder (or the doctor that first documented it).
PS Trump is/was a coke freak, that video clip of him and Epstein checking out the talent clearly shows Trump was on something. Epstein, hmmm - what a nice fellow, no wonder he was attracted to Trump, another really nice person. Neither of them was a creepy person attracted to young girls despite the evidence they themselves provided us. Are you a excuser of paedophiles and their actions Mr.Eel?
Nice, Mr. Eel
Joe's garage was more secure than Trumpy boy's club. Far fewer dodgy foreign spy's, etc. try to get a peak of that beautiful car. Also Joe didn't make a fuss of returning the documents when found.
Let's hope Trump doesn't get far with his mental plans with his mental friends or all Americans are going to suffer. The poorly educated idiots that couldn't vote for a woman of colour over a convicted sex offender, fraudster, complete liar, etc., etc. could be about to find out the mistake they've made. Unfortunately many others around the world might suffer too. Only in America.
