Why users still couldn't care less about Windows 11

Meh

If only 95% of users cared as much as enthusiasts did. Hell, my colleagues don't even seem bothered by win11. It looks nice, it's just as unreliable as previous win versions, and it's up to date. Honestly, I can't recall a user from our tenants who actually customized their windows install apart from a desktop background.

Re: Reality will bite in the end

Our national T-Mobile spinoff recently launched a 5GTTH product, and according to their coverage map you will get 300 mbit basically across the country. Granted, I live in a small, dense country, but the point still stands. Especially since old city centers can sometimes be the last to get fiber. €25 a month, if you use more than 2TB in a month your priority drops when there is congestion in the air. But, just to illustrate, my brother and I live 3 streets away and both consistently get 800 down/100 up with latency comparable to cable and dsl. So does his friend who lives 2 blocks away. Oh and guess what, it's extremely popular because it works so well. 5G @ 3,5Ghz is more useful than you might think.

Re: Reality will bite in the end

Nobody wanting 5g is an overstatement. It is genuinely useful to be able to get gigabit out of thin air, while on the move. Especially if you don't want to bother waiting 3 years for fiber actually poking through your floor.

Re: Powerful Hardware?

Not for Windows itself no, but it sets a new baseline of minimum supported instruction set extensions (AVX etc) for application developers.

Interesting interview, this guy definitely knows the target audience seeing he doesn't use too much corporate speak.

This sentence:

"Although it does the fundamental silicon designs in-house, as we've seen from the last three generations of M-series chip, Apple outsources the fabrication to TSMC."

is a bit weird to me though, because everyone (except Samsung and Intel) outsources their manufacturing to external companies?

BIOS for the win

There is a way to permanently fix this;

Disable hibernation under ACPI settings in BIOS. The entire option for fast startup will disappear, and windows won't even bother to make a hibernation file. This is of course, persistent across all updates and installations of Windows (unless you reset the CMOS).

On many laptops this menu is hidden, however these days runtime EFI patching can get you the fully unlocked setup for most brands of bios and laptop.
