Fascinating comment. I'm reminded that digital sampling was invented in 1922 and I've always been intrigued by telecom so I did a bit of quick research. Strowger's invention was an electromechanical switch and AFAICS doesn't compare to this. Also, that's from 1889. If it ain't broke don't fix it is a term that some use to hold back progress so I personally hate hearing it. That being said, remote callbacks are simple and work so why would they reinvent the wheel? They've built on existing technology and enhanced fiber optics. It isn't explicitly stated in the article where the idea came from or if it has been implemented at scale previously so my assumption is that it hasn't.

Can you personally guarantee that Chinese models won't steal information or be used as a stalking horse, or any of the other methods of cyberwarfare? Will you personally indemnify against financial or any other kind of loss? The answer is obviously no. No one in their right mind, much less anywhere near having the necessary financial reserves would do that. The world is nowhere near as simple as you appear to believe.

Coming from Veracode, this opinion carries a lot of weight. They were the first with commercially viable Dynamic Application Security Testing well over 10 years ago. If there was anything easily accomplished, they would have done it. They're not afraid to charge for their services, let me assure you. This should have already been a logical conclusion for any thinking developer or architect. AI isn't coming up with any new ideas. It's taking data created by humans on a massive scale and spitting it back out to us. That data is full of security issues. More code equals more security issues.

To me this is an incredibly lazy response that keeps getting repeated. You could say over here we see things differently, here's how. I'm sure this poster is going get a work visa and then hop on a plane immediately and live there for a year or more to understand your point of view. It's a ludicrous suggestion.

Because OpenAI is focused on AI, not constantly reinventing the wheel. A company can't go off in infinite directions and be successful.

I guess if you're living in an alternate reality or just don't have even a basic grasp of economics, then you might actually believe that prices have increased due to "corporate greed". Our electricity co-op is now passing on the congestion based pricing that has been charged by their upstream supplier for several years. The push to electrify everything has a massive cost. Did you really believe that corporations could just eat that cost? Seriously? It's long past time to face reality.
