Surname usage

Out of topic, "Filho" is a common suffix in Portuguese when a son is named after his father. "Filho" literally means son.

The appropriate way to refer to him is “Almeida Filho”.

It is the same as using Junior in English. It would be awkward if he was named "Wedson Almeida Junior" instead, and being referenced as just "Junior", instead of Almeida Jr.

If you want to abbreviate "Filho", then it could be "Almeida Fo." Although, the usage of this abbreviation is very uncommon, and more likely to appear on an academic paper's reference section.
