Blue screen of death or Eurovision's Windows95man performance – what's less annoying?

Amorous Cow Turd

Yep - that was my take - perhaps it was a homage to George Michaels classic "Lets Go Out There", but without the wit / tongue in cheek (no pun intended, well maybe a little) humour, production values, musicality, or lets sait it how it is; talent.

Clearly the UK made a decision that we did not want to re-host Eurovision in 2025 - Mission accomplished!!!

Is the long awaited Raspberry Pi flotation about to happen?

Re: Zero Pi

What are you talking about? I bought a PI400 a couple of years ago for my kids to muck about with, and am about to buy another. No problems with availability whatsoever.

Did IBM make a $6.4B blunder by buying HashiCorp?

Whichever IBM business unit now owns this (let's say Software Group) will absorb its new revenues into its own and the figures will look good. The acquisition cost will be absorbed into IBM as a whole (and IBM does still have deep pockets). That business unit will look good, and shareholders will be appeased, and may be spun off at some point, with IBM divesting itself of staff, legacy products and stable low-spending customers in the process, IBM recoups its costs, gets rid of a bunch of overheads at little or no cost, and makes a bit on top, keeps looking viable as a business and the shareholders (which includes the senior execs are rewarded). Its a race to the bottom.

Oracle's database family gets trendy AI makeover

IBM got there first ;-)

IBM beat everyone with its flavour of Unix (AIX) for the venerable 6150 and Power processors - finally the dodgy AIX backronym can be rebranded (and nobody loves a rebrand of old hat tech more than IBM) more meaningfully from Advanced Interactive eExecutive to Artificial Intelligence eXecutive.

Microsoft doesn't want cops using Azure AI for facial recognition

Re: Seriously???

Drones armed with tasers and face recognition have potential high-value military applications (imagine a field/flock of flying landmines), whereas body-cam based face facial recognition has none. That would be my guess as to why they pursued the drone face recognition tech.

Google fires 28 staff after sit-in protest against Israeli cloud deal ends in arrests

Re: > punishing people for their political beliefs

Generally protesters start quietly/peacefully and get progressively louder/more disruptive until someone takes notice. I imagine things were getting kind of loud when Google called in the cops. My son is in a secular school, where the few Jewish kids are really keeping their heads down and travelling in nervous little groups between classes and the Muslim kids are making their lives very difficult. These kids aren't Israeli any more than the Muslim kids are Palestinian, and being kids they played no part in the conflict, but nobody in authority there is tackling it for what it is - bullying.
