I last used Azure Stack in 2020 and it was the most unreliable buggy rubbish I have ever had the displeasure of working with. I managed to crash the entire stack for days by making simple mistakes like trying to run a windows script through the script extension on a Linux VM that sneaked into the list. Very interested to know if it's any better now days?

Not necessarily. You.may be running an application that can't be moved to the cloud for either technical or regulatory reasons.
