Every so often I just get overwhelmed with the amount of crap accumulated in my ~/Downloads and ~/Desktop folders and just move everything to my file server.

I probably have at least 10 folders on the root of one of the drives named variations of "__MacBook" "__from Lenovo" "_mom's iMac" etc. with the number of underscores at the beginning representing how important I thought it would be to go through these backups and extract what I'd need to keep.

I think the only thing I've ever needed to extract was a PDF scan of my photo ID and that was because I couldn't be bothered to just do a new one.

Yeah, it's REALLY hard to remember those days, but Internet Explorer was actually a pretty decent "cross-platform" browser at one point in its history. Pre-tabbed browsing era, for sure.

I used Interlink all the time to share the CD-ROM drive on my dad's PC with the hand-me-down PCs I found or was given (it was a CompuAdd 386). It was a great little utility, and from memory not much more complicated than using the Chooser and a serial cable to share drives on my mom's Macintosh LC 580 and my hand-me-down PowerBook 100.

I am a self-confessed Apple fanboy and have been using Macs, along with other Windows and other platforms, my entire life, and I promise you that in the 90s if you wanted stability on the desktop you did not pick a Macintosh unless your workflow never involved hitting the "File" menu, hovering over "Print" and saying a prayer before letting go.
