I loved this article. Thank you. I'm old enough to have lived through all of this. I'm therefore also old enough to have run a beta version of Windows NT on 64 bit architecture; it ran natively on the DEC Alpha chip from day one. So the combination of a 'modern' (well, pre-emptive multi tasking) operating system and 64 bit processors was all there in 1983. And blimey it was fast.
