5yr old CPU is this productive

If you aren't gaming or doing high-end tasks, a 5yr old CPU is more than enough. My desktop is a 4th gen i7 and my laptop a 5th gen i5 both are a lot older than five years. It's impressive that China has closed the gap, it won't be too long before they pass the west. After all they consistently make the fastest supercomputers in the world.

Chinese chipmaker Loongson now just three to five years off the pace on the desktop

Agreed. My desktop of choice is rocking a 4th gen i7 and it's more than powerful enough for my needs.

That script I wrote three years ago is now doing what? How many times?

Robocopy to the rescue

IMany years ago Iwas involved in setting up a new government quango, it had been announced at the last minute by the Minister (trying to score brownie points with the media) and nothing had been worked out lol.

They had an office and a handful of desktops and a pc acting as file server. There was no raid and because they weren't part of our infrastructure they weren't getting archived to tape, so I used robocopy to copy all the files back to our office (HQ) where they were then archived to tape. It ran for a few years before they got themselves organised and were spun off from our department.
