Here's a thought
If you don't like the iPhone, don't buy it. After much careful deliberation, I will probably get Nokia N95 (an not utilise is media offerings) and for everything else I will get an iPod touch. Cost the same amount of money, okay it is two devices, but it should cover every argument mentioned above... A phone is a Phone and an iPod is an iPod, why confuse the issue...
