If we can afford to lose N amount from our purse then wouldn't it just be easier to raise their collective pay by N instead?

I agree. By now having MS office should provide the user with the ability to work on a 'thing' that is a munged-up mix of Excel, Word and PowerPoint stuff all working together, without them having to realise which app.is doing what behind the scenes.

Most companies don't deal with Broadcom. They deal with e.g. Nokia who use the Broadcom technology within their AI fabric switches.

Right. It is a good strategy to switch between active and backup regularly. Back and forth, active/active really. Its the only way to be sure your backup is ready to work when needed.

Perhaps the manufacturer would need to be given an alternative.option to supporting for 10 years. They could. Be given the option of offering to buy-back the product instead, at a time-related discount. Note manufacturer choice, not consumer choice.

It reduces the likelihood of consumers scrapping devices. It gives the manufacturer an alternative to supporting for 10 years.
