Google is a monopoly. The fix isn't obvious

Re: There's three monopoly concerns with Google

DS999: You can't just pay excess profit as "bonuses",

cow : says who ?

Billy Grahams son heads a few charities and those charities have multiple business jets.

THeres something seriously wrong when a charity is allowed to beg for money on tv to send to projects in Africa, and they have multuiple business jets...and yet it happens.

Your statement is utter bullshit.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Said it before will say it again, make third party advertising illegal... no more google, no more fb, no more ads, so many problems go away...

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Bulldust.

There are a few forks of Android by mega corps (AMZN etc), and they all got now here because unfortunately the only motivating factor is greed. Android would die without G.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: There's three monopoly concerns with Google

WOw you are blind, so you really believe because they are a non profit they arent going to do the corporate america thing ?

You can be sure that M will simply give away all their profits as bonuses to their board, in the near future which will of course mean they will try and whore their users for more advertising dollars.

Re: Google should do more bribing and informaion sharing

So you are arguing that the Taliban isnt as bad as Putin so we should just accept the Taliban ?

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: Defeatist option

Yeh monopolies are never evil....

Just look at Russia or Iran...choice is always bad.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: Perhaps the buying and selling of businesses should be outlawed

Exactly ban third party advertising and suddenly so many problems disappear.

No more FB, X, Google, no more Ms and ads...

No More fake medicine, vitamins, no more tv evangelists etc

Its such a simple solution and has so many positive benefits,e verything else is dumb.

Re: There's three monopoly concerns with Google

DS999: Firefox is obviously very very very badly run. They have a revenue of $400 million a year and somehow that's not enough?

cow: Where have you been ?

G, F and MS each make close enough to $100B a year and they never stop trying to grab another dollar. The America corpoate board makes crack whores look restrained. F is only doing what America expects no demands of all its boards.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: Obvious solution

You seem to forget how corporate america works, they are not your friends. THose people are psychopaths who dont have a soul and only greed runs in their veins. G is one of their instruments which gives them money.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: There's three monopoly concerns with Google

You seem to forget that Firefox is now trying to sell advertising itself.

The answer is Chrome should be funded by the government a bit like hospital and the police. It may be a bad choice but hthe alternatives are far worse.

Re: Google should do more bribing and informaion sharing

Amazing how yet again you cant grasp there is a rival for Azure, .. dont use the cloud.

Good too see corporate ameica has brainwashed you and draining any ability to think differently from what they are trying to sell you.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: Defeatist option

Yup that worked well in Russia, except there the monopoly is the cult of the political leader who also is backed by the state brainwashing arparatus.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: Perhaps the buying and selling of businesses should be outlawed

A lot can be learned from 1861 America and slavery. Back then enough churches brainwashed people into accepting the evil practice of slavery, when the obvious cruelty and inhumanity was visible in front of their very eyes. Today we have a new form of brainwashing and at the core of that structure is the modern advertising megacorps like Google. If you really want to make the world a better place, ban third party slavery, then people will start to standup for themselves and change the evil greed of corporations eroding their human rights and stopt hem from selling their intellectual property and mass surveilance.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: How can the axis of evil make $$ from search?

Far easier to simply ban third party advertising. Whatever changes or breakups the new hydras will simply become just as bad for basically the same reasons. The simple answer is ban third party advertising and everyone except for Google shareholders wins.

If Android was spun off, how exactly would they make any money to survive ?

Re: Wrong moniker

What a loud of bullshit.

Nobody got rich by overpaying employees, giving them double the national average for holidays, free healthcare and so on. No rich people get rich by exploiting people nothing more or less, so stop pretending otherwise.

Re: Selling...

Buffet and integrity are you sure those two words go together ?

He would invest with Hitler, Stalin and Putin if it was possible.

AI stole my job and my work, and the boss didn't know – or care

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: confusion detected

Im not confused at all... you are the one who cant differentiate between different forms and think everything is either black or white and forget there are greys.

Just because you can call it capitalism doesnt mean its automatically not shameful or cruel.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

While technically true, you are forgetting the spirit of my statement.

Look at your capitalist uncle Vlad, he is "pretending" to pay thousands of stupid Russians to go die for him, that may be capitalist but that doesnt make it evil.

Stop being a smartarse and remember what it means to be humane, because you are a not a. billionaire and if bonuses are equally shared by all in a company you will actually benefit.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: not going to work

Exactly, when all the human authors creating content disappear, who will the bots copy ?

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Given AI is nothing more than copying, someone needs to sue the shit out of the management for conspiracy to copyright for starters.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

This is exactly why we need a new discrimination law that makes giving bonuses to ONLY leadership and not everyone else.

Its no different from the old days of slavery, where one small group gives themselves titles and pretends they are special and deserve all the money and the people who actually do the work get the bad deal.

Gartner mages: Payback from office AI expected in around two years

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: So are these 2 “Real” years…

Starship.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

WHy does the media give time to fakes like Gartner to peddle their fake bullshit ?

Bad things often happen from big lies, giving them a platform doesnt make the world a better place.

Disney claims agreeing to Disney+ terms waives man's right to sue over wife's death

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Lets be fair, theres not much to actually pirate from Disney.

They have been making the same movie w/ the same story over and over again since the 60s.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: A lot of the media in the US is very anti Disney

My comment wasnt about whether the news is positive or negative, thats irrelevant. As they say any news is good news, without media time these people are nothing.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

The fact that some comments are negative against Disney shows, that the American media is not brainwashing people as effectively as the media in Russia brainwashes enough Russians to believe in Putin.

Good too see America media supporting and constantly giving a platform and praising corporate leadership they obviously always think of the children.

What makes you think Eric is the "brains" behind Lex and not Mike ?

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: Squirrel boy!

Not sure why you mentioned SquirrelBoy at least he knows what unsecure code actually is, the real jobs wouldnt have a fucking clue, he couldnt program, remember Woz did all the programming and h/w design.

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: Yep yep, the priviledged attitude

If i was a shareholder i would be asking why geniuses like Eric created duplicate services by the dozens.

So Eric why did Google create dozens of messenger systems ?

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: Cause he's

Finallyt someone who writes the truth.

The real person Eric should be blaming is Eric. Its his fault google continues to create dozens of duplicate services...

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: What a dick

The real q you should be asking, is why does the media keep giving peopl elike him airtime ?

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Re: Misspoke?

No whats more depressing is that you believe corporate aresholes are genuine and fail to appreciate its people like Eric who actually to blame for the "failing" he is blaming on the work from homers.

He is the idiot who approved Google to create dozens of duplciate systems. How many chat / meeting does Google need and why are they writing the same thing more than a dozen times ?

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

You do realise the cult thing starts with allowing corporate leaders preach to the masses, just like Erics speech which thereg and other american media have dutifiully shared with the masses.

Re: Cuba

Like all Americans they dont actually understand how to judge success and think being rich is a success. THen again they also dont appreciate what being rich means.

Just look at America, so many poor kids, soo many poor families far more than say NZ. Nobody in NZ suffers because they cant afford to see a doctor. People in NZ get basic rights like actually having a months holiday or rights like not being fired because they needed to stay home because their kid was sick... and yet you want to tell me that America is richer than NZ.

What you fail to understand is Cuba is a shithole because its an extreme form of where America is trying very hard to go, that is giving all the power to the few, in America you call them few corporations.

doublelayer: For some reason, Windows 10 and 11 won't allow them to run. Newer JREs refuse to run them at all. JREs from the same era try to run them, but then crash without usable error messages.

cow: Im calling bullshit, java runs all windows. Java especially "server side" java uses very little from the O/S so its highly doubtful any windows change would break anything.

Re: Those who can, code. Or write documentation, or run the mailing list, etc.

The more people claim equality or diversity you can be sure the exact opposite is true.

Just look at america, everyone is supposedly equal except the working class is being forced to work greater and greater hours for less and less pay just to suppor tthe parasitic leadership class.

Equality should be about real tangible benefits not stupid labels...

CowHorseFrog Silver badge

Just reading the article and comments about the participants, its appears everybody mentioned are Americans. Americans and their boards of directors pretending they are equal. Yup everyone is equal thats why only boards get bonuses, somehow thats not inequality but calling someone a single word is wrong....
