Hmmm
Thanks for that El'Reg :D
Have started investigating this more and come up with some simple scripting checks to audit every PC we have.

Having worked for several years in Dells Pro Support, i got a lot of calls from customers with Vostro laptops.
They really are shit on the inside. Lowest quality components all round. It may look nice, but the quality and reliability is shockingly bad.
Just go for a Latitude instead. Spend a bit more to save a lot more!
To the editor, i heard ont eh radio last night this guy speaking about this problem with Facebook cookies. He said the best way to stop facebook tracking people is to either deliberately delete all their cookies, or have Ad Blocker Plus running with the 'https://adversity.googlecode.com/hg/Antisocial.txt' script loaded up.
What the-
"According to public documents, Google was warned repeatedly by US state and Canadian regulators and independent watchdogs that it was running ads from online pharmacies that were breaking US laws."
So Google gets fined for the exact amount it and the Canadian companies made, $500?
Where are the fines for doing the wrong thing?? For breaking the law??
What a useless finding. Its just the same as a shoplifter getting caught by the cops, and all they have to do is hand the good back and off they go.
Two extremely important words were not said in the article, that give rise to the (relatively) expensive (but in reality average) cost:
Pits and Conduit.
Both had to be purchased BACK from Telstra. If the NBN already had pits and Conduits to use, the price would probably be about half.
Whats next for the NBN? IMO they should make all data within Australia free. Not count it at all. Doing that would attract alot of business here, especially those companies looking to stream live/stored media. Awesome article!
Oh you think Apple is bad? (and it is)
Check these out. Two Dell Latitude 6520 notebooks with virtually the same specs (ram, HDD, cpu, OS, cards, LCD). One is from Dell Aus, the other from Dell US.
http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=t720603au&c=au&l=en&s=bsd&cs=aubsd1&model_id=latitude-e6520 <--- Dell Aus: $1934.20c AUD
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=04&fb=1&l=en&model_id=latitude-e6520&oc=blct65m&s=bsd&vw=classic <-- Dell US: $1069.00 USD !!WITH!! An Inspiron Mini10!
No wonder Dell Aus is the most profitable region for Dell global, per capita.
And FYI, these two machines are built in the same factory in Malaysia with the same components made in China and elsewhere.
So sure the apple tax is downright contemptable, but its sure not confined to Apple.
This is some of the best news ever.
Ever since the previous government sold Telecom Australia (wholly owned government department to a 51% stake in the now private/public company, and lying through his teeth by promising everyone he wouldn't sell it off).
Now that the best parts of Telstra will now be controlled by a (virtual) government department again, overseeing the connection of everyone in Australia to the fibre optic network and/or wireless comms.
It has taken over 15 years to fix John Howards lies.
Personally speaking i think the biggest reason not many people at all have tech in the kitchen is because they just don't want it.
And why have an intelligent washing machine? Whats wrong with using your own eyes to differentiate between garments?
i think the most useful think in a kitchen would be an e-reader on the freezer door to leave notes on.
The current government is working very hard to get back in the black this year, so far it has been harsh, but still fair and sensible. Everyone has to do their bit.
Little nuggets like these though are simply awesome. There is one game developer 2 buildings down from my work, i know they would be very keen for this.
This also can only help the folks who made 'LA Noire' in Canberra too.
@Meph
Have a look at Google maps to see where exactly Cape Grim is: The extreme North Western tip of Tasmania. This area is within the 40 degrees south of the Equator, meaning that in the Spring time the whole area (and state) is subject to the 'Roaring 40's' wind from around Antarctica:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roaring_Forties
Between August and December (almost to the 1st of August every single year) these winds hit and stay around for 3-4 months.
I believe these winds would bring some CO2, methane etc that has been building up over the southern ocean and Antarctica, alluding to the 'Ozone hole' from days of yore.
Cape Grim is the site for THE purest air and water available to anyone living on the planet.
Who knows what similar data in the northern hemisphere shows.
Jesus Christ Malcolm Turnbull will you just shut the fuck up already?? 100 meg or 50 meg it makes no difference in cost at the end of the day!
I am SICK of Telstra and their shit phone lines, the constant congestion i have to suffer and the proximity i have to be in for DSL service.
JUST DO IT!

the 4chan corp are still in TEST Alliance... which just so happens to be best friends forever (BFF) with the Goons.
In TEST there is: 4chan, Reddit, Ars Technica and several other big forum groups. I am just glad i got out of TEST when i did, but i do miss talking to the 4Chan leader on Eve, he's a legend.
As to CCP taking the servers offline, it's a lot better than leaving them on and just hoping for the best.
