Copilot+ PCs? Customers just aren't buying it – yet

webstaff

Ball. That's my weekend gone.

Thanks, now I need to go see what it can do.

Re: confusion

I for one welcome our robot overlords!

In all seriousness, "ai" is here and it's usefulness has been proven to me countless times now.

Why is "ai" useful to me, because google search is so bloody awful.

So I've been using chat search to filter out a lot of the crud as its not been stuffed yet full are marketing fluff. (Bait and switch is coming)

Although I recently started using a self hosted 4get instance and that a better tool.

What really has got my back up is MS shoving copilot at everyone for an increased cost as if its the only option.

That along should get MS time in court, seems a pretty clear cut case given you can cancel and resign up, for the same old price, of the office version you originally signed up for.

That plus all the updates seem rushed and full of bugs. 24h2 has been a dumpster fire of issues.

Windows 11 stages a comeback – still miles behind older sibling

Once you make Windows 11 look and feel like windows 10...

Anyone doesn't even notice the change..

Was the TLDR..

UK businesses eye AI as the cheaper, non-whining alternative to actual staff

Re: Oh come off it. @codyjunky

Wow people don't like to hear the truth of the matter do they?

They really hate the commentator, when they should hate the game, the league operators and the club owners.

Re: @wolfetone tell me more about this bridge...

Are you selling shares in this venture?

Maybe we can setup a sales structure, I'll sit at the top with you and we will advertise it on tiktok to the pleblic.

I remember when we used to be able to tender for schools contracts.

Used to be able to support a few local county primary schools for a tiny msp.

They got 10 times the service for half the price they would tell me.

But then came the PE lessons..

That hoop, now this one, and that one.

Now twice around the building.

Now off to the admin office for forms sessions.

Yeah we gave up. We'd have had to employ someone just for the paperwork.

It became a job for the boys. Good money if you can get the work.

With 10 months of support remaining, Windows 10 still dominates

Dual boot for gaming.

I'm in the same boat but the time has come.

MS keeps doing this. It's time to cut and run.

webstaff

I for one think Mint is mint!

Swapped for 4 years to Mint daily driving when win 8 came out. But moved back to 10 when it arrived.

Will be doing the same again maybe for good this time..

Is it, can we say it?..

I dunno but as an msp owner I have written to a number of clients to discuss a migration to Linux..

After all, what do half your servers run on.. yeah the one we never have to touch, not the windows ones..

Microsoft still not said anything about unexpected Windows Server 2025 installs

Yeah, like heated seats.

Fitted from new but had to pay or subscribe.

A little short here, a quick code clear there and boom heated seats.

Re: Opinions do differ - sage line 50 world.

"half the traffic is ipv6"

Try supporting Soho, small biz.

So much "can we turn off ipv6" sage being a top offender in this regards.

Heck most of the micro isp site I support are vermin media, so no ipv6 there either.

One-year countdown to 'biggest Ctrl-Alt-Delete in history' as Windows 10 approaches end of support

Re: 0patch for Patching Win 10 after EOL

See explaining computers recent video.

MS will be selling support extensions for windows 10 for three years.

If your a charity it's $7 for the three years.

If your an enterprise it was 400+

If you are a home user.

Well let's see how many of you want to play chicken before we give you a price.

It's been a decade since I ran Linux mint for my daily gui usage..

I still have the drive somewhere.

But looks like I'm swapping back soon!

SLC high endurance ones.

If it's important, buy industrial ones from a proper supplier.

Single layer ones are still made for this purpose.

High endurance SLC chips can be bought easily.

Plenty of industrial SLC SD cards and USB sticks exist.

Plenty of my customers moan about dash cameras not having footage after crashes due to worn out cards.

We.sent an email around with links for high endurance cards.

Magnitudes more right cycles.

10 times the cost for a quarter of the size of other cards

Wow we got hostile responses and we explained why they should consider it and had all the long term cost savings shown.

People are dumb and short sighted.

Doubly so for.most business owners.

I just don't give them sympathy now when claims they could have won go against them or systems die that could have been still up.

Re: Some people...

Should also mention my mortgage offered me £15k for green upgrades over 5 years at 0%

Which includes batteries with solar systems.

2 small panels on the garage roof and a huge battery pack for that free power...

Thank you very much.

Re: Some people...

100% agree, sad to see a good argument for connected devices down voted so hard.

I'm just about ready to embrace this model.

One major place for me this works well for me is heating about 1000 liters of water in our two fish tanks.

It's a great way to heat the rooms and acts as a thermal store.

I like Louis Rossmanns bankruptcy idea on this.

His idea was around iot providers ending services and when it ends you have to open source.

If windows 10 goes eol then open source it.

Given how much of 10 is in 11 this should force there hand to carry on with support.

Also what happened to windows 10 will be the last os?

Is that not misleading advertising?

UK watchdog won't block Openreach’s discount fiber pricing

webstaff

Re: Well then compete... they are.

Issue is the altnets go to cable an area that OR say isn't getting fibre for many years.

Then as the altnets are using OR ducts, OR turn around and go, well we are in the ducts anyway so might as well bring forward our fttp installs as we have to services the ducts anyway, so the alt net use them. Might as well pull fibre at the same time.

It happens every week.

The only place this doesn't happen is where the altnets run there own ducting or poles.

So that's hull and the middle of no where.

It would be nice to just setup a company to say they are going to do an area and then OR would do it anyway, rinse and repeat.
