Database Password Protected..?! rofl.

If its Access like most of these things that means nada.

Hold shift, right click open with -> notepad.

Scroll a bit...

Voila you'll see every field seperated by a strange yp character combination, All the rest of the information is held totally in plain text.

Great security.

Google in mass 404 land grab

@ Phil

"The 512 byte limit is interesting because Internet Explorer will also replace any server-supplied error page with its own built-in version if it's "too small". I forget what the limit is but it's similar. So in this respect Google is only following in Microsoft's footsteps."

Without looking further I can't tell but surely all google is doing is replacing the default internet explorer page, with a google specific one? i.e. their toolbar doesnt even have any program logic in it to deal with this... it relies instead on IE calling the default page, and has simply overwritten the current content of that page?

Erm... but they advertise it...

...as being able to hold up to 250,000 songs (in MP3). Surely its misrepresentation? or false advertising?. What the heck is WD playing at? Some one needs to start beating them with the clue stick.

Facebook faces UK data probe

Reason for clearing profiles...

Perhaps the reason for asking users to clear profiles of all data, is because they have set up a script to check physical files vs database entries. Any orphaned files... delete. Certainly seems an easy way to 'circumvent' not having an account deletion procedure at launch, as someone suggests above.

Just spat out a mouthful of apple juice at your comment. Have to say I agree completely.

Revolutionary!?

The phone is almost destined to flop. expensive... and doesnt even live up to its own advert's buzzwords.

Revolutionary: The only revolutionary aspect to this phone is the software, most of which functionality wise is available on WM platforms, and Symbian platforms, through modified firmwares and 3rd party applications.

Given that the technology within the phone is all old tech, about as revolutionary as body control granny pants, there could be a case for a complaint to ASA, at least in my (possibly blinkered) opinion.

O2 goes flat on data

The other difference...

It appears the author, and a majority of the people making comments here have missed the other difference.

Leaving the "unlimited" argument out of it.

The £7.50 bolt on is only valid for use when browsing using your mobile phone, NOT for use with a computer as a bluetooth modem, or a datacard.

The £30 bolt on, covers usage via all means.

Quoted from o2 website:

"O2 Web Bolt On gives you unlimited* browsing through your phone for £7.50 per month

O2 Web Max gives you unlimited* browsing with a data card for £30 per month"

This is also confirmed by the conversation I just had with select customer services when I signed up to the £7.50 bolt on about 30 seconds ago.

Intel slobbers over flash-based server storage

Richard Hicks

@ Matt Bryant

Now that you mention it, I remember reading about such a thing in what must have been "PCW" or MicroMart back when... crikey... when they were punting HyperDrive (the software that would load your entire operating system into RAM) in the back of every magazine.

Old Tech?

Around a year ago I remember reading how a well known MMORPG (eve-online) was in the process of switching to RAMSAN solid state storage for its servers.

How is intel tech any different to what is already available and out there?

See: http://www.superssd.com/products/ramsan-500/indexb.htm for what I mean. 2TB of nand flash storage, in a 4u rack chassis. Surely intel are behind the game right now?
