Thanks Liam. It does seems a shame that Matts solution hadn't been used inside FreeBSD, and the combined resources put to better use.
I'm close on giving up on the FreeBSD organisation (not FreeBSD itself) - I've numerous bug fixes, and code enhancements lying around. I have logged some of them, yet no-one bothers even looking at them, yet alone doing anything about them, so there really isn't much point. There are only so many times you can update a bug report, or prod a mailing list until you become considered a spammer.
