Yup, most of the "new" higher end CPUs (particularly 68060) that come onto the second-hand market these days are stripped out of stuff like old Nortel kit. As you note, the problem then is that for these embedded uses, it was more often the LC or EC variants which got used, as there wasn't a need for the MMU or FPU,. whilst for Amiga use it would normally (for the 68060 at least) be the fully-featured variant that was expected to be present.

There's also a seperate issue that chips manufactured using later mask revisions could run at higher clock speeds than the original 50MHz parts, so in addition to unscrupulous dealers remarking LC/EC parts to make them look like full-fat ones, they might also remark older revisions to make them look like later ones...

Fortunately I don't have to deal with any of that hassle - bought my '060 towards the end of 1995 when they were still hot off the production line :-)
