The biggest problem is that it only had a niche between RAM (where it was slower but cheaper per bit) and SSDs (where it was faster but more expensive per bit)
The problem was that SSDs improved much more quickly so they narrowed the gap in speed and the price disparity become worse, so the niche narrowed.
There wasn't room in the market for it, there were simply too few people willing to pay for it and without sufficient revenue further R&D was not justified.
