That paper seems to have received quiet a bit of critisim for methodological flaws (e.g. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0956797619872762). The authors have reissued a "corrected" version.
Regardless, "personal preference" is shaped in a range of ways, and many of the factors mentioned previously continue to be applicible.
