IPv6 is built to be better, but that's not the route to success

"The Internet existed long before IPv6."

Can you understand what the "actual internet" mean?

The internet before IPv6 first RFC was still mostly a network among universities, research centers, and a few large corporations, mostly in the US, and with almost zero commercial value. The web didn't come until 1993. It was a quite different landscape compared to what we see today.

Could those who worked on IPv6 on those days envision what it would have become ten year later? They could not, maybe they could have, but it wasn't easy at all to believe and predict that in twenty years "internet" would have become a world network deeply interwoven with people daily life.

You've been one of the few lucky people who had early access. For most, until the late 1990s/early 2000 internet was beyond their grasp. They did not have nor the devices nor the connectivity to access it.
