Not really too simplistic. 128 bits is just too long to grok by mere mortals. Adding in hex nomenclature vs dotted decimal, and it goes totally geek. Then start leaving out the middle if it's 0 and it becomes unintelligable gobblygook to the help desk. There were some inherent security issues in ipv4, but they shouldn't have thrown out the baby with the bathwater. Making an ip address 64 bits and only using 5 octets to start an mapping ipv4 into 0.0.0.0.x.x.x.x like you would do say going from uh 32 to 64 bit architecture. Then hack the tcp header with a protocol marker that signifies a longer header, or some other mech, and you keep people from losing their minds. If you want to let someone comminicate tranparently at will to your toaster I wish you well. Have we run out of phone numbers in the US yet?
