To prevent future massive cockups of this nature, I'd like to suggest that you purchase something called a "Dictionary".
In this you will find all the words in the language documented, along with whether or not they are unused, uncommon, obsolete or still in general use.
Also you might want to look up "wanker" while you're in there, as it will save future confusion when people are talking to you.
