Unstructured analytics are exactly what tools like spreadsheets were designed for. RDBMS is the wrong tool for unstructured analytics, no matter what the data set. An object store database is a better fit, which allows arbitrary slots to be defined per-object rather than just per-class.
There is no "one size fits all" tool for data stores. After 30+ years of beating myself senseless on the cases and monitors and keyboards of these beasts, I've worked with more ways of storing data than I care to remember. Ditto transmitting data, collating data, calculating data, and summarizing data.
I know from instinct and experience which approach I want to take for a problem given the scale of its data set, but even that can become misleading as soon as someone says "we want to take it to the cloud."
