Heat is the new clue to a laptop in difficulty. Either the fan going bananas or the keyboard getting noticeably warm, especially true if it really is on your lap, or you pick it up. I once had a Dell with chronic overheating, so much so that it would shutdown every hour or so when it tripped the thermal protection. Very embarrassing when it started happening on a customer gig, and I had to ask them if I could use the freezer in their kitchen area for 20 minutes before I could get back to work.
