Apple responds to critics of CSAM scan plan with FAQs, says it'd block governments subverting its system

Hang on. I certainly do not want Apple, Google, AWS, FBI, Scotland Yard, Flensburg und das BKA* to go through my files on my device by any means. As someone else said in this thread, "my device, my data".

But why on earth would you want to break a system that allows law enforcement to filter out and find potential CSAM without having to manually go through every single image on a device? Naturally no-one is going to be convicted** on a hash alone.

The way to solve this is by privacy regulation and vocal objections from customers and experts; not by breaking the tools available to prevent child exploitation.

*) Go listen to some old Kraftwerk tunes. You haven't done that in a while. You've earned it.

**) At least not in the legal system; I can't vouch for the court of public opinion.
