At the individual / personal level, computing power is largely irrelevant.

But as a civilization, it is becoming a foundational utility. We build a data center, load it up with apps, feed in electrical power, and get out banking, commerce, transportation management, communications, and functioning power grids.

To be clear, the resource being used isn't cpu cycles or memory silicon, it is electrical power. It is specmarks per watt.
