The SGI Itaniums were OK

$FORMERJOB sold a number of multi-CPU SGI machines based on Itanium, some 48p and 64p machines. Back in the day when "p" meant a single-core chip. It all fit in a single rack. SGI had magic chips that provided NUMA memory controllers for up to hundreds of processors, all seeing the same RAM.

One year there was a 3700X (or was it a 'BX?) with 64 CPUs and 128GB memory on sale on the trade floor at the Seattle Supercomputer show for a mere $300k. So, on behalf of $FORMERJOB I bought one.
