The problem with the capitol riots wasn't the riots per se. It was the background under which they happened. An outgoing president who lost the popular vote and the electoral college spent the preceding month crying to anyone and everyone about how rigged and unfair it all was and who then organised a rally a short distance from the capitol on the day his loss was to be confirmed, worked the crowd into a frenzy, and then suggested they walk to the capitol to protest.
Given the fact there there were also improvised bombs planted in the vicinity the whole thing could have been a lot worse. But people still lost their lives, simply because Trump is a poor loser.
