Big customer said "we don't need any chips"

The auto industry figured they'd not sell any cars during Covid, so they said "we don't need any chips"

So Intel/AMD/etc said "awright mate, we'll make other stuff"

Now the auto industry complains of shortages.

Hmmm... Sounds like an own goal to me.
