The earlier Reg article suggested that an upcoming murder of a family of five they had to prevent was one reason they stopped the project now. Although I suspect that any individual criminal act being foiled would not, by itself, have stopped them continuing: informants, and deliberate inter-gang tipoffs, are probably a fact of life for these gangs.
