Well, this really is machine learning, isn't it? You give it some training set of classified galaxy images and then it learns to classify other galaxies. Conflating this 'I have a vast data set to train an NN on' with intelligence as is now fashionable is kind of a stretch though, I agree. But then conflating some of the ideas in ye olde symbolic AI with intelligence was as well: AI has been driven by absurd hype since its prehistory.
