I'm not a coder, developer or software engineer - probably just naivee!

But is it down to the internet and the idea of "ship it, and send out the fixes later", whereas in the olden days it was more difficult to send out patches via floppies, firmware was on ROM, not EEPROM and so had to be working first time?
