Re: chewed wires
We lost a Californian kingsnake once, and we surmise it lived under the floorboards for most of the year, it was eventually found healthy happy and a bit bigger in the garden the following Summer. That was also the day I saw my mums friend (who discovered it) break the hundred metres sprinting record.
At one point we also had geckos living in the airing cupboard, the things our parents had to put up with.
