There is no denial, just science. On the US east coast, hurricanes are largely driven by the AMO, which is a cyclical process. If you cherry pick from low to high, you get the expected results. If you extend the time series to include more cycles, you don't see anything statistically significant, and thus can't correlate with the theory that human activities influence frequency or intensity of hurricanes.

You'll also find a strong correlation that 97% of climate sceptics prefer evidence to appeals to authority. So in the election sense, claims have been made that need to be proven, or disproven.. And the evidence isn't there, yet..
