Did I or did I not ask you to double-check that the socket was on? Now I've driven 15 miles, what have we found?

I was always told it's because 240V will kill you easier than 120V. So the switches are supposed to save you (if you remember to turn them off) if you should contact the plug conductors as you remove/insert the plug.
