I disagree. I think with a locked-down, private subnet, data encrypted in transit and at rest, with the customers own encryption keys would be just as safe as in a studio location. Customers can use Amazon Firewalls or industry-standard ones such as Cisco along with intrusion detection systems. All it takes is some well thought through governance.
