I’m a big fan of the cloud in general, but unless you’re talking SaaS, I’m afraid I disagree. If a company doesn’t have a basic level of infrastructure and ops maturity, moving to a platform where by default anyone can spin up anything almost instantly will very quickly make things infinitely worse.

The first thing you need to build if you are moving to one of the big clouds is your management and control infrastructure. All the tools are there and easy(ish) to deploy - certainly compared to traditional enterprise IT - but it does need thinking about and is too frequently skipped, with predictable results.
