No! G3 preceded VME, the O/S for the New Range - 2900 series. Because so many people loved G3 and could not see a major reason to change, ICL brought out DME (Direct Machine Environment) which enabled G3 to run on 2900. G3 was indeed great, and I'm proud to have played a small part in its creation.
