Train-knackering software design blunder discovered after lightning sparked Thameslink megadelay

Re: Bugger

The idea, given that real electric trains aren't running on 12 volts, of circumstances where it seems sensible to not turn the thing back on again after a failure seems eminently sensible to me.

As usual we get the typical El Reg 'I would have designed it better' stuff. In any system there will always be 'edge' cases and you can never test them all (apart a literally infinite budget of time and money). So you always have to think 'what do I do if we go over the edge?' and programming 'STOP' seems quite sensible on a train. So actually you are arguing over decimal points. Maybe it shouldn't have stopped at 49 HZ? How about 48.5 HZ? or 48.49 HZ?
