Everything is either a leaf or a node. I have a bit of a mania for this. My home dir has directories only; no (other than hidden) files. I try to adhere to the idea that a directory should generally contain either files or other directories- it makes for better organisation, to my mind. conf.d directories are great, but should include the main config file, rather than have that outside. I believe that better fs organisation would make for an easier to navigate system. Linux /etc should contain only directories - one for each subsystem.

Whenever I see ~ full of random files, I sigh. But then, I don'tlike the desktop analogy, either. Don't let me start about icons all over the screen. I guess I must be a bit of an old curmudgeon.
