Parsing text files for config is a slow legacy solution without full auditing (bar a full config management solution) that is incapable of per field ACLs. Systemd is at least a start to an enterprise grade CMDB like just for instance the Windows Registry Btrieve database based solution. Im sure Linux could do better than the Windows Registry, but it's a clear improvement on dozens of text files.
