A recent raspian distro had to leave out pulseaudio because, in LP's words, it "exposed flaws in poorly written audio drivers" - eg the mainstream ones for build in audio and for the ubiquitous USB dongles.
Could the systemd guys not lift a finger to even tell the driver writers what they meant, or by golly, submit fixes to upstream for some really basic stuff they complain isn't right? Nope, can't be arsed.
Which of course, required more workarounds to get background music playing in one app to be interrupt-able or mixable with audio for some important announcement/page - something that had worked for years without any effort.
Haven't even removed the workaround on newer ones, or tested it it's still required. I have other things to do.
