That's been my experience with a lot of people from "good" universities - some then pick up some utility over the years, others stick steadfastly to quoting shit they were taught back in Uni that doesn't actually practically apply in the real world.
Doesn't go for all degree holders, by any means, just seems to be common amongst Cambs and Oxbridge types in particular.
