Blame those who said web design was software development
Ever since "web design" was considered part of true software development, we've had this stuff. People who only ever learned HTML and Javascript considering themselves the equal of someone with 15+ years of C++, C# or Java experience. Now as the internet is one of the key resources for life on earth alongside water, heat and food, we find ourselves with a glut of people who never studied software design, barely seen the inside of a PC, can't spell "tuple" and yet they left college with degrees in software and immediately started working as web design consultants.
Don't get me wrong, there are some very talented people working in the field of web design, people who do know their stuff and do it very well but they're as rare a a sunny bank holiday Monday.
