Don’t fight automation software for control, just turn it off. FAST

Re: "the aircraft’s autopilot system will trim against the control column force"

"If it is not feeding through your actual input, WHY SHOULD IT TRIM TO COUNTERACT THAT INPUT???

So basically if you pull up, it ignores the pull up and issues a nose down. ie, when in autopilot mode, any pitch input is inverted. MENTAL !"

On the contrary, it is the logical result of adding an additional system to a directly manually controlled aircraft.

The autopilot does not see the control input. What it does see is the aircraft deviating from a normal attitude. It has no way to tell this from a shift in CG due to people or luggage moving, or aerodynamic effects from icing, bird strike, or structural damage. All it knows is that the aircraft has gone out of trim, and it tries to correct the problem, as it is designed to. This would be expected behaviour on small manually controlled craft, I would imagine.
