Has that time actually passed? I haven't noticed, I still follow the procedure:
- Install Windows first
- Install Linux
- Use Grub(2) as bootloader
I've never thought to change. Does the Windows boot loader recognise and provide a Linux option if you do it the other way around now? I know you could manually tweak the Windows boot loader to boot a Linux install, but it was faffing* compared to the steps above, but that demonstrates it was always possible.
If the above is true, and installing Windows doesn't nuke a working Linux, I'll take my hat off to MS.
* I believe it was something like dd'ing the first few KB/MB of the disk (the MBR possibly) and providing that as an image to the Windows boot loader
