It depends on what you want to do on the Internet. If you only want to do email and view webpages, then you only need a phone or tablet. If you want to work on something, then you would need a desktop or laptop. If you want to work on something which requires a lot of computing power, then you would need to have a multi-core i7 (or Ryzen), 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, multiple monitors etc... I also own a laptop and a smartphone. I use my desktop everyday, my laptop twice a week.

I would like to upgrade to a 10 core Intel i7 7900X. Unfortunately, you can only use it in Windows 10. I still believe Windows 10 has privacy issues. No one wants to use an O/S which sends private information to MSFT. This is why my desktop and laptop still have Windows 7-64 and will probably remain so until January 2020.
