OK, I'll bite
How many of the claimed performance hits are estimates, and how many are based on real data? Most CPU cores these days are dynamically clocked, and not usually running at top (or turbo) speed. One would think that proper patches, as opposed to hastily hacked patches, could mitigate a lot of the performance hit by explicitly kicking the core clock into turbo when swapping between kernel & user modes.
