RIP Stanislav Petrov: Russian colonel who saved world from all-out nuclear war

A new kid at my school in the eighties was talking about how he missed living where he had before the family had moved. Upon further questioning he said that they'd lived in Suffolk/Cambridgeshire next door to RAF Mildenhall. He liked the idea (first seen by me in War Games*) that he lived so close to a major target and would have been spared the aftermath if it "had all gone wrong". Strangely he wasn't a gloomy bloke really.

*Also RIP John Wood and John Spencer.
