There is one enormous difference: when you run 'apt-get' in MobaXterm it looks to the set of packages that have been specially written to work with MobaXterm; when you run 'apt-get' in WSL, it looks to Canonical's Ubuntu repos (but you can add any other by editing your sources file).

Basically, if a tool run in a Linux terminal, that same binary will probably run on WSL(*). To me, that's worth losing X11. (Besides, X11 is reported as working in the current WSL, it's just that Microsoft is not prioritising the fixing of any bugs people report with it)

* some sysfs/proc stuff notwithstanding, but the "unsupported" list keeps getting smaller.
